The building of the UT Pärnu College will undergo extensive renovation, including upgrading the ventilation and heating systems and transforming the lobby into a modern collaboration and learning space. The works will begin on 5 May and end in November.
During the renovations, the lobby will become a modern, multi-purpose room for students, entrepreneurs, regional partners and residents of Pärnu. The new common space will enable organising seminars, workshops and meetings, fostering innovation and knowledge exchange. The college café will also be renovated to make it more comfortable for students and visitors.
According to Garri Raagmaa, Director of UT Pärnu College, a major problem at the college is poor ventilation and extremely high energy consumption. “The renovation is inevitable because the ventilation and heating systems do not meet any requirements: the building is like a sauna in summer, and you need mittens when you come to the lecture in winter. During the renovations, also cooling equipment will be installed, so the energy efficiency and the indoor climate will be significantly improved,” he explained. The works will be carried out by AS Tartu Ehitus and Tera Ehitus OÜ, whose joint tender won the contract and whose earlier projects include the renovations of Pärnu Raeküla School.
How it affects studies
Temporary changes will be made to the college’s working arrangements during the renovation works. According to the initial plan, lectures will be held online in May to ensure a more convenient learning process. Thesis defences will take place in the college on site as planned, and no noisy construction will be carried out during that period.
The library will remain accessible throughout the renovation, but construction noise can be expected. The location of entrances to the building will also be temporarily changed during the works. More detailed information about the changes will be given as needed. The renovation works will be completed in November 2025.
The renovation of the University of Tartu Pärnu College will be co-funded by the “Pärnu County Innovation Centre KOBAR” project under the measure “Attractive regional business and living environment”.
