From May 11-24th Pärnu College will host the international Nord+ crash course „Invisible citizens and the future of recreational peripheries” 5117336 Local Mobilization and Community Development in Rural-Urban Context (6 ECTS).
The course will cover the following topics: community operations in rural areas, integrating summer-guests, visitor participation in local life, politics including, seasonality considerations and identifying entrepreneurial and service opportunities. The course will focus on the coastal areas of Estonia (Häädemeeste, Vormsi, Noarootsi) and Latvia (Salacgriva). The course is for undergraduates, graduate students and faculty members from the partner universities in Norway, Iceland, Finland, Sweden, Latvia and Estonia.
The outcome of the course is to bring together existing development strategies and subdivision plans of coastal areas at the regional and local level, and to strengthen cross-border co-operation within the Estonian-Latvian program.
The initiators of the course will be Garri Raagmann and Merle Looring from the University of Tartu, Urmas Kase from Pärnu County Administration, Mercedes Merimaa from the Pärnu Bay Partnership Convention along with other guest lecturers.
