On 23 August, a science communication forum is held to discuss the role of regional higher education institutions. The international science conference on 24 August will focus on the college's new priority area – resource management – by addressing the topic of the blue economy.
At the first day’s science communication forum “The role of higher education institution in the region”, beside the keynotes focusing on global trends (Raul Eamets, Professor of the Faculty of Economics, University of Tartu, Dean of the field of Social Sciences) and national future perspectives (- Uku Varblane, Head of Research at the Center for Development Monitoring) cases are presented, followed by discussions. Researchers of UT Pärnu College, UT Narva College, UT Viljandi Culture Academy and Taltech Kuressaare College present the Estonian cases. Cases from Latvia, Lithuania, Finland and UK are discussed by representatives of the Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences, Klaipeda University, Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences and Manchester Metropolitan University.
The second day's international science conference "Aspects of blue economy at different spatial scales" focuses on the college's new priority area – resource management – by addressing the topic of the blue economy.
The opening keynote speech, 'Overview of the European blue economy', will be delivered by Prof. Jörn Schmidt, chair of the science committee of the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES).
A high-level discussion panel will follow with the participation of representatives of the Ministry of Climate and the Ministry of Regional Affairs and Agriculture.
